Components of a creed

A great step toward creating new dialogue with learners is to develop a creed, a set of fundamental beliefs. Creeds build a common language for the learning community and instill a sense of pride in its members. They set a tone of purpose and integrity that helps to develop unity among the members of the group. A creed simply states the goals and what will be done to accomplish those goals. Consider the many local and worldwide organizations that represent themselves with a powerful creed.

Creeds should inspire, motivate, and challenge. Careful thought must be given to developing a creed. For example, in a school setting, educators and learners or committees could compose a creed. Those composing the creed will want to use rich wording that reflects purpose, commitment, and enthusiasm.
